Meanwhile, here is the synopsis followed by an excerpt from Chapter One to give you a taste of the writing style. Although Hidden Company is a psychological thriller, as you may expect from me it's also full of the dark stuff! Traditional witch, Raven Wood, has helped me yet again with the dark arts, and also something new for this one.. working with the fae. Enough from me... here's a taster.... Hidden Company S. E England A dark psychological thriller, with supernatural elements, set in the heart of Wales. 1893, and nineteen year old Flora George is admitted to a remote asylum with no idea why she is there, what happened to her child, or how her wealthy family could have abandoned her to such a fate. However, within a short space of time it becomes apparent dark forces are at work, and she must save herself from something far worse than that of a harsh regime. *** 2018, and forty-one year old Isobel Lee moves into the gatehouse of what was once the old asylum. Chosen as a refuge from the lifelong psychic attacks endured as a reluctant medium, from the moment of arrival it's clear there is a terrible secret here, which is desperate to be heard. Angry and upset, Isobel baulks at what she must now face. But with the help of local dark arts practitioner, Branwen, face it she must. This is a dark story of human cruelty, folklore and superstition. But the human spirit can and will prevail...unless of course, the wrath of the fae is incited... *** Excerpt from Chapter One: Padding downstairs in the full glare of the landing light, wishing she’d closed the curtains, she flitted from room to room swishing shut drapes of chintz. Outside, the fog lay thickly with not a thread of light to permeate the black moonless night. With the house lit up like a stage it lent a curious feeling of being watched, and in her rush to what had been the parlour window, the figure standing under the bare lightbulb in the centre of the room caught her completely off guard. It lasted less than a second. A shimmer of blue light. A vague impression. And then it was gone. Christ! She stood with her hand to her heart. Panting. Still holding onto the door handle where she’d burst in a moment ago. Had that happened? Or was it a trick of the light? It had to be a trick. No one had been registered as living here. And definitely not a woman. For it was a woman. Elderly, black dress….long skirts…. No, no – it had been her own reflection - in the glass! She breathed a long sigh of relief, laughing at herself. For goodness sake Issy, get a grip. It’s a new place, you’ve had a bad dream and you’re spooked. Everything will be perfectly alright when the sun comes up. Shaking with relief she closed the curtains, left the room and clicked shut the door. At the end of the hall the kitchen lay in darkness, the outlines of fitted units and furniture shadowy. She should make some tea and go back to bed, get some sleep and put everything in perspective…. On nearing the entrance a cold breeze blew against her cheek. As if a door had opened somewhere. Something didn’t feel right…and the sense of that was creeping up like a cold shadow. As if whatever it was had followed her from the parlour. Light! Get the light on! This was getting silly. Get. The. Light on! Damn, where was the switch? She fumbled blindly around the door frame, a feeling of rapidly escalating dread shivering up and down her back. Something or someone was behind her. That woman in the parlour. Oh God… Got it! The kitchen lit up in a surgical glare. At the exact moment the dull, repetitive thudding she instantly knew had woken her, began again…a steady bump…bump…bump…against an upstairs wall. As if someone was banging their forehead against it. And even in the bright, white light, fear clutched at her heart. There was no way she could stay here. No way. *** Pre-order links are: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07JQYQ7R8 and http://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JQYQ7R8 Kindle only for pre-orders, although the paperback will be available at the same time. And again, to those who are not familiar with my books - they are very dark material and not for those easily upset or of a nervous disposition!
